CAC Fixes Part 1: Application Approved but Certificate or Status Report Won't Download?

Reaching the "Approved" stage on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) online portal is a major milestone. However, many applicants encounter a frustrating roadblock right at the finish line: they click "Download Certificate" or "Download Status Report" and the command yields no response. It triggers a portal error, or opens a blank tab.

If your registration status displays as approved but your official electronic documents refuse to download, here is why it happens and how to resolve it.

Why Official Documents Fail to Download After Approval

When an officer approves your business name, company, or IT application, the CAC portal must automatically generate a digital PDF equipped with a QR Code and electronic signature. The download usually fails due to one of four main reasons:

  1. Document Generation Sync Delay or Lag: A CAC official approves the registration but the automated background rendering of your PDF certificate/status report does not always happen simultaneously. High server load can delay PDF generation by anywhere from 1 to 24 hours.

  2. Browser Pop-up Blockers: CAC certificates open as dynamic PDF downloads or secondary pop-up tabs. Due to some settings, modern web browsers automatically block these pop-ups without displaying a clear warning.

  3. Browser Cache & Session Corruptions: Stale session tokens or cached data from earlier registration steps often contribute to situations where dashboard action buttons fail to execute the download script.

  4. Incomplete Payment Reconciliation: In rare cases, if a post-approval document retrieval fee or stamp duty processing didn't sync completely on the CAC portal's backend or Remita's backend, the system suppresses document delivery even though the application status shows "Approved."

How to Troubleshoot These Problems 

To download your approved document, follow these steps: 

  • Disable pop-up blockers and check downloads. Depending on your browser, check what follows when you click download. If you see a "Pop-up blocked" notification, click it and select "Always allow pop-ups and redirects from cac.gov.ng." Retry the action to download the certificate. 

  • Clear cache or use private browser mode. Log out of the CAC portal then open a fresh private browsing window. Log into the portal and navigate to My Applications, the select Approved to attempt the download again. 

  • Use the Search/Document Retrieval feature. When the step above doesn't work or the direct download button on your main dashboard is unresponsive, copy the new BN or RC Number from the approval dashboard. Head to the Public Search feature and search for your business name, and locate the approved document to download it. 

  • 24-hour system refresh is another option. Simply wait things out by allowing the system to refresh for the next 24 hours. Even if the document is queued in the CAC backend processing queue, waiting for about 12 to 24 hours often resolves the issue automatically without manual intervention.

What to Do if the Problem Persists

If the technical fixes fail and 24 hours have passed, your application file likely requires a manual backend status push by CAC ICT support.

You can do the following:

  • Submit a Ticket on CAC CRM via crm.cac.gov.ng. Log in, open a ticket under "Document Download/Certificate Issues." Attach a screenshot of your approved status page showing the unresponsive download button.

  • Contact Technical Helpdesk by sending an email containing your application availability code or temporary ID to helpdesk@cac.gov.ng or ict@cac.gov.ng. Include your account username, company name, and the specific document failing to generate.

Potential issues may arise during the course of a company registration and even when the registration is approved. Thankfully, the steps above can help you resolve issues arising from the failure to download your approved documents.
